Our Impact

Wild Llanos was born from a desire to connect travellers to the Llanos' nature and people, and to help preserve the regions' natural and cultural treasures by creating viable alternative income streams for local families.

Mission

To connect the world with the extraordinary wildlife, landscapes, and culture of the Llanos, creating meaningful experiences that empower local communities, protect nature, and preserve the region’s natural and cultural heritage for generations to come.

Values

01

Respect for the Wild

We believe wildlife should be experienced on its own terms, without compromising its welfare or natural behaviour. We lead with respect, practising ethical wildlife viewing and responsible guiding that puts the well-being of animals and the integrity of their habitats before the experience itself.

What this means in practice:

  • Never disturb, chase, feed, or manipulate wildlife for a better sighting or photograph.

  • Prioritise animal welfare, natural behaviour, and habitat protection in every tour.

  • Help travellers develop a deeper appreciation for the Llanos and its extraordinary biodiversity.

02

People at the Heart

We believe the Llanos are best experienced through the people who call it home. We build fair, lasting partnerships with local families and communities, celebrating their culture, valuing their knowledge, and ensuring they have a meaningful voice in shaping the experiences they deliver and the value they receive.

What this means in practice:

  • Pay fairly and transparently for local services, skills, and knowledge.

  • Give local partners a genuine say in how tours are delivered and how their services are priced.

  • Celebrate Llanero traditions and create opportunities for communities to share their culture on their own terms.

03

Conservation in Action

We believe tourism should be part of the solution to the challenges facing nature. We strive to turn every journey into an opportunity to protect the Llanos, reinvesting part of our profits in conservation and restoring and managing wildlife-friendly habitats on our own farm.

What this means in practice:

  • Commit a defined portion of profits to meaningful conservation initiatives.

  • Develop our farm as a living example of how land can support wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

  • Work towards measurable, long-term benefits for biodiversity and the region's natural heritage.

04

Purposeful Experiences

We believe travel can change the way people see the world and their place in it. We create authentic, thoughtful wildlife experiences that connect travellers with the nature and culture of the Llanos, inspire a lasting sense of responsibility, and generate value that extends beyond the journey itself.

What this means in practice:

  • Design experiences around discovery, learning, authenticity, and meaningful connection.

  • Help guests understand the ecological importance and cultural richness of the Llanos.

  • Strive to ensure every experience benefits travellers, local partners, and the landscapes that make it possible.

Milestones

2015

Our first tours operate: hikes and horse-trekkings that deeply connect travellers and locals, and create a direct economic impact.

Eco-tours in Yopal

2022

Wildlife tourism boom

Post-covid, the desire to experience nature and support small eco-tourism ventures has only grown. More local families and small businesses profit from eco-tourism in Casanare than ever before.

2018

Ranches turn nature reserves

Our work inspires a growing number of cattle ranchers turn to wildlife conservation - and focus on eco-tourism

2019

In the next years the "safari llanero" becomes known across Colombia. Casanare becomes a top wildlife destination. Our safari-styled vehicles start operating!

2020: During the quieter pandemic era we plant trees and invest time and money into turning part of our family ranch near Yopal into a natural habitat for wildlife, creating lakes and wetlands through extensive landscape designing and rainwater harvesting. We also build our ranch house, to host day trippers on our Llanos Intro Tour.

Improved lodging & services

Lodges have been able to re-invest in improvements and refurbishings. The standard of local lodging has been continously raised. More and more locals are able to secure formal jobs in hospitality and tourism services.

Step by step, year after year, ecotourism is shaping the local economy for the better, creating meaningful alternatives for the local people. Yet, Casanare in Los Llanos has remained under the radar as one of Colombia’s last great hidden gems, where the wild Llanos remains true to itself - and has been able to preserve much of the raw beauty, living traditions, and unhurried rhythms that make it so extraordinary.
